Netroist is a project that launched in 2026 to create a comprehensive database of networking hardware. "Netro" is a portmanteau of retro networking, and we primarily focus on hardware from the mid-00s and earlier, though there is no hard limit as to what you will find in the database.
The site is administered by The Serial Port.
How do I become a member?
During our beta test, user collections and submitting contributions are currently limited to The Serial Port Patreon members.
How was the site built?
Netroist is based on Django and MySQL. It started out as an internal project for The Serial Port to track our own inventory, but it soon became apparent that it could serve a wider purpose. It was developed using a hybrid approach with Claude Code and Kate as a simple IDE on Debian Linux. All visual styles and content are human-designed.
Commitment to data accuracy
LLM tools are never used as a source of technical data for devices, photos, or text content. All data is sourced from manufacturer datasheets, web sites, or print media. Every device and submission is human-reviewed.
